The question has often been asked, “What would Paul think if he were to see Rome today?” Imagine if he were to see the crosses that dominate the landscape, not to celebrate Rome, but to celebrate the incredible sacrifice of Jesus!
For most of my life I thought, wow, he would be blown away. That is until I finished reading through his letters this past year. As I read it hit me.
He expected it to happen.
As a matter of fact I think he would have been shocked if it hadn’t happened. He expected the message of Christ to win. He expected the mission of Jesus to be unstoppable.
Which begs the question. Why are we surprised by it?
Let me ask you, what do you expect the truth of Jesus to do in your community? What do you expect it to do in your work place? In your family? In your life?
Paul didn’t know what the journey would look like or the suffering that would have to be endured along the way, but he knew that the Kingdom of God was greater than anything or anyone trying to crush it.
What do you expect?
