Convert

We’ve been so focused on getting people to believe that God is real that we’ve neglected teaching people to believe God.  I’d rather have someone believe and follow God while struggling with the idea intellectually than to have someone who believes in God and doesn’t follow.  Don’t be fooled into thinking that believing in God is the goal.  The book of James tells us that even the demons believe in God.  The goal is to believe God and follow him.  You don’t have to understand Him to follow Him.  Joy comes through believing Him, and through that you begin to know Him.  Don’t be afraid to begin the journey without understanding.  It’s called faith.  Faith not in the idea of God, but in the message and leading of Jesus Christ.

The problem is that we often neglect to believe God with our lives while trying to convince people to believe in God.  “You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are” Matthew23:15 NIV.  We bring people to believe that they have a light that is actually darkness.  They believe that they will find life because they believe in God.  When the truth is that they won’t.  Jesus says something about this state in Matthew, “And if the light you think you have is actually darkness how deep that darkness is!”

What if we stopped arguing about whether we believe in God and started challenging people to believe God and see that He is true and real?  What if we started believing God and showing that He can be trusted.  He can be believed.
