I had a great conversation with one of our guy’s last night. He’s really worried about the amount of time he’s spending thinking about this girl. I know right now every girl reading this wants to know who this guy is—sorry, it’s confidential. I mean, he was really upset that she just seems to consume his thoughts. I had to laugh. That was a good tension.
I have guys talk to me frequently about the tension of spending time with family and spending time impacting lives. That’s a good tension. It should be there. You are told to do both and God doesn’t lead us to abandon one for the other, he leads us to find how we do both as best we can with the time, talents, and treasures he has given us.
So many times, the tensions we feel are caused by healthy desires but the tension frustrates us. We’ve been lied to and told that when you follow Jesus Christ there isn’t going to be tension. When actually, following Jesus Christ is going to bring all sorts of new tensions. Sometimes, tensions between two great things. Celebrate the passions that are creating healthy tensions and recognize that although they are tough situations at times, they are healthy situations.
That’s called growth.
