Serious

The best piece of advice I ever received from my father was simply Don’t take yourself too seriously, and take God very seriously. 

If you process that you’ll realize that there are some drastic implications to that statement for your everyday life. 

You won’t spend as much time working on things and you’ll spend more time praying about things. You don’t make things happen; He does. 

You won’t fall into the trap of believing that God is hoping you come through. Sometimes we carry this weight that God is going to be so disappointed if we don’t come through for Him. Really? Remember He’s letting you go to work with him. Just because He lets you hit a few nails doesn’t make you the general contractor. 

You won’t lose sight of the fact that this relationship is about enjoying your Dad. You get to spend this life with Him. Don’t wait for heaven before you get to know and enjoy Him. 

So today, don’t take yourself so seriously, and take God very seriously.
